Officers responded to the report of a crash near the intersection of Westwood Road and Fort Riley Blvd., on August 26, 2025, at approximately 3:43 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 2017 Toyota driven by Semaj Kelly, 20, of Fort Riley, had struck a 2010 Toyota driven by Justin Shaver, 29, of Morganville. Kelly was issued a citation for failure to yield at a green light and having no driver’s license. Both vehicles were towed.

Joseph Hodges, 50, of Manhattan, was arrested on August 26, 2025 at approximately 11:23 a.m., in the 1000 block of Seth Child Road in Manhattan on a Pottawatomie County District Court warrant for failure to appear. Hodges was issued no bond and is no longer confined in the Riley County Jail.

A pedestrian sustained minor injuries after being struck by a motorist in west Manhattan Wednesday evening.

According to the Riley County Police Department, a Ford Explorer driven by 19-year-old Vonda Vandwehr, of Manhattan, struck 19-year-old Dimya Brown, also of Manhattan. The incident occurred near Westloop Place and Claflin Road.

Brown was treated at the scene by Riley County EMS for minor injuries.

Vandwehr was cited for inattentive driving and no proof of insurance.

A Manhattan woman sustained a minor injury Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash near the junction of I-70 and K-177 in Geary County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 3:35 p.m. on July 18, when a pickup truck exited I-70 and attempted to cross K-177 to assist at another collision scene. The truck failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by a 2019 Cadillac XT4 traveling northbound.

The driver of the truck, 19-year-old Nicholas K. Newland of Kamuela, Hawaii, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. The driver of the Cadillac, 33-year-old Ashley N. Taitano of Manhattan, was transported to Ascension Via Christi for treatment of suspected minor injuries. She was also wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Riley County Police responded to an injury accident on the morning of November 30, 2024, at the intersection of Leavenworth Street and N. Juliette Avenue.

According to the report, a 2013 Toyota Tacoma driven by 21-year-old John Mayes collided head-on with a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan operated by 47-year-old Marco Galeano-Casco. Galeano-Casco sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Via Christi Hospital by EMS for treatment.

Police cited Galeano-Casco for driving without a license and failing to provide proof of insurance.
