Police are investigating a vehicle theft reported Tuesday morning in the 900 block of Colorado Street.

Officers with the Riley County Police Department responded at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 9 after a 21-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man reported their moped was stolen from the street by an unknown suspect.

The estimated loss is approximately $1,000.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service allows individuals to remain anonymous and may qualify them for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

Authorities say an unknown suspect stole thousands of dollars worth of construction equipment and tools this week, south of Manhattan.

The Riley County Police Department says it happened Monday night in the 100 block of Deep Creek Road, when a 40-year-old man reported the theft, which included a wheelbarrow, a truck toolbox and copper cables or wires. The loss is estimated between $8,000 and $10,000.

Police are looking for possible suspects and are seeking the public’s help. Anyone with information is asked to contact RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers.

Demarkaus Newman, 38, of Wichita, was arrested on July 21, 2025, at approximately 12:15 p.m. on his Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear. This warrant stems from original charges of possession of stolen property. Newman was issued a total bond of $5,000 and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.

Officers filed a report for theft in the 1800 block of Fair Lane in Manhattan on July 21, 2025, at approximately 4:42 p.m. Affordable Electric was listed as the victim when it was reported an unknown suspect took a white enclosed cargo trailer. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $5,000.

The RCPD are investigating a series of thefts reported across Manhattan on June 9, 2025, involving stolen vehicles, construction equipment, and tools.

The first incident was reported at approximately 7:48 a.m. in the 500 block of Pilsbury Drive, where Energy Center Manhattan Pool reported a dump trailer stolen. The estimated value of the trailer was $18,000. Fortunately, the trailer was recovered later that evening around 8:05 p.m. in Jackson County, Missouri.

Shortly after, at 8:31 a.m., a theft was reported in the 2300 block of Sky-vue Lane. The Flint Hills Breadbasket reported the theft of a gray 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck valued at $5,000. .

Another major theft was reported just before 10:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Kimball Avenue. Prairie Stone Inc. reported the loss of a mini skid steer valued at approximately $20,000.

Later in the morning, at 11:43 a.m., officers responded to a report in the 4600 block of Eureka Drive. The Department of Labor was listed as the victim after a 37-year-old man allegedly stole multiple power tools, a radio, and a Lenovo computer. The estimated value of the stolen property is around $10,000.

The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $10,000.

Kamryn Machor, 17, of Manhattan was arrested on June 9, 2025, at approximately 1:25 p.m. Machor was issued no bond and remains confined at the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center at the time of this report. This arrest was in connection to a report filed for aggravated robbery in the 1500 block of Pipher Ln. in Manhattan on April 11, 2025. A 16-year-old male was listed as the victim and a 17-year-old female, a 17-year-old male, a 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old female were listed as the suspects. The victim reported the suspects pointed a firearm at the victim and took items from him. This is an ongoing investigation and no additional information will be released at this time.

Braden Dinkel, 21, of Manhattan was arrested on June 9, 2025, at approximately 5:53 p.m. for a Riley County District Court warrant for aggravated battery. Dinkel was issued a total bond of $25,000 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

A local man is out $6,000 after a charitable donation took a costly turn. According to Riley County Police, the incident occurred on December 13, 2024, in the 500 block of Richards Drive. The 30-year-old victim reported that he agreed to donate $5 to a charity, but his card was instead charged $6,000 without authorization.

They encourage anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers, where tips can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

Two Topeka residents were arrested at a local retailer on Wednesday for their role in three shoplifting incidents at Ulta Beauty, Best Buy and Water’s True Value in Manhattan.

Officers arrested 53-year-old Christopher Stapleton and 50-year-old Nicole Hall just after 1:30 p.m. at the Best Buy in the 300 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Stapleton was charged in this case with three counts of theft of property or services with a value of $1500 or less in the past 72 hours.

Hall has been charged with one count of the same violation as well as single counts for using or possession with intent to use drug paraphenelia into the human body and possession of an opiate or stimulant.

Both remain confined at the time of this report, with Hall being held on a $4,000 bond and Stapleton on a $2,000 bond.
