RCPD director Brian Peete on Thursday said local CBD stores selling products not compliant with Kansas law could see police enforcement “at any time.” Some store owners and customers are complaining that Manhattan is enforcing the law differently than other places.

Riley County police officers recently visited CBD stores in the area, instructing them to remove products that have illegal amounts of THC or otherwise don’t fall within Kansas law. THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive compound that can cause a “high.”

Peete said the initiative follows the January police raid of the CBD American Shaman store, 704 N. 11th St. The store’s owner, Donald Ince, was arrested in May in connection with marijuana distribution and other charges, and police said the case is still under investigation.
