Kansans could soon have a say in who sits on the state Supreme Court.

Area legislators discussed Senate Concurrent Resolution 1611 during Saturday’s legislative coffee, hosted by the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce.

The resolution advanced by a narrow margin in the Senate earlier this month. If adopted by the full legislature, the measure would put a constitutional amendment on the ballot in August 2026 to replace the current, merit-based selection of justices with direct elections.
