One person was injured Friday in work zone crash on I-70 in Geary County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash, a Toyota Highlander was traveling eastbound around 9:15 pm near mile post 301, when the driver swerved to avoid an animal in the road. That caused a trailing semi truck to strike the Highlander from behind. The roadway was down to a single lane of traffic due to construction.

The 24-year-old semi driver from Mississippi, was transported to a local hospital with only a minor injury. The other driver, 64-year-old Jeffrey Tanner, of Manhattan, was not injured.

Two people lost their lives, and a teenager sustained serious injuries in a two-car collision on Sunday evening in Clay County, Kansas.

The crash occurred around 5:35 p.m. on K-15 highway, approximately 15 miles south of Clay Center, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

A 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Deanna L. Hess, 56, of Clay Center, was traveling southbound when it crossed the centerline and collided with a 2016 Chevrolet Impala on the driver’s side.

Hess, who was alone in the Malibu, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed she was wearing her seat belt.

The driver of the Impala, Lisa L. Stevenson, 53, of Salina, also died at the scene. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

A passenger in the Impala, 13-year-old Ravean Stevenson, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment. Authorities noted she was not wearing a seat belt.
