Entering the 127th season of K-State baseball and ninth under head coach Pete Hughes, the upcoming conference schedule features five opponents that competed in the 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Championships (Oklahoma State, Arizona State, UCF, Cincinnati, and Kansas). The Wildcats’ 30-game conference slate also includes three-game series against BYU, TCU, Utah, Arizona, and Baylor.

The Minnesota Twins called up the organization’s No. 2 prospect ahead of its weekend series at Milwaukee. As of press time Friday, the Twins had not released a starting lineup for the series opener against the Brewers.

One of the top prep baseball players in Kansas is staying home.

Manhattan High rising junior Asher Newton announced his commitment to Kansas State baseball, sharing the news Thursday on social media with the caption, “Staying Home. Go Cats!”

Newton, a 6-foot, 180-pound shortstop in the Class of 2028, recently represented Team Kansas at the 2026 Prep Baseball Future Games before announcing his commitment to the Wildcats.

The commitment comes after a standout sophomore season in which Newton helped lead Manhattan to a 21-5 record, a Class 6A regional championship and the program’s second consecutive state tournament appearance. The Indians’ season ended in the state quarterfinals against eventual 6A champion Washburn Rural.

Newton earned first-team All-Centennial League and second-team Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches All-State honors after producing one of the top offensive seasons in the league.

Former Kansas State shortstop Kaelen Culpepper is expected to make his Major League Baseball debut.

The Minnesota Twins called up the organization’s No. 2 prospect ahead of its weekend series at Milwaukee. As of press time Friday, the Twins had not released a starting lineup for the series opener against the Brewers.

Culpepper, the No. 29 overall prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline, has spent the season at Triple-A St. Paul, where he is batting .271 with 14 home runs and an .844 OPS in 78 games. The 23-year-old also represented the Twins in the MLB All-Star Futures Game for the second straight season earlier this summer.

The Twins selected Culpepper with the 21st overall pick in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft, making him the first position player in K-State history to be chosen in the first round.

After Kansas State star shortstop Dee Kennedy came off the board first during this weekend’s Major League Baseball Draft, three more Wildcats heard their names called before the draft concluded Sunday.

Kennedy, who was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the No. 114 overall pick in the fourth round Saturday, headlined a group that also included right-handed pitchers James Guyette and Tazwell Butler and catcher Bear Madliak.

Kansas State shortstop Dee Kennedy earned First Team All-Central Region honors from the ABCA/Rawlings on Tuesday, as the organization announced its annual regional teams.

First Team All-Region selections across all eight regions are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The 2026 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-America teams will be announced Friday, June 12, prior to the start of the NCAA Division I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

Kansas State shortstop Dee Kennedy continues to add to his extensive 2026 resume, as he earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Co-District 6 Player of the Year honors, following the organization’s 28th annual announcement of the district selections.

Kennedy was one of 15 student-athletes recognized across the NCBWA’s nine districts and one of six selections from the Big 12 Conference. He shared the District 6 honor with Kansas’ Tyson LeBlanc, while the Big 12 led all conferences with six District Player of the Year selections.
