Saturday was No King’s Day, sponsored by Indivisible MHK. This was the third organized protest held by the organization in Manhattan, and attendees lined up on the edge of City Park across from City Hall. Approximately 1,200 residents turned out for the protest.

The protesters represented the wide demographics that make up the city of Manhattan’s residents.

Indivisible MHK security chair and City Commission candidate Amber Starling said, “People are just getting really tired of seeing what’s going on with the federal government,” she said. “The impacts in our community are quite noticeable. With closures, lost income we have just a lot of people are suffering because of this, and we want to see our community thrive.”

Protestors gathered near the edge of City Park on Saturday, to push back against policy decisions made by the Trump administration.

Indivisible MHK planned the protest, called “No Kings,” and organizers said they confirmed that 350 people had participated. The protest was called by 50501, a grassroots organization that set out to have “50 protests in 50 states under one movement” challenging “the draconian policies of the Trump administration,” according to a news release.

“We are gathered out here to celebrate our democracy,” said Kaidy Smith, chair of Indivisible MHK. “America is free, and we do not need a king. Two hundred and fifty years ago, on April 19, 1775, the first shots of the American Revolution were fired. Our Founding Fathers fought for no taxation without representation, and it feels like we the people have lost good faith representation.”
