<p>From the moment Manhattan High football fielded its first practice under the blazing summer sun, it expected to be competing for a state championship.</p>
<p>Four months later, the Indians are giving it their all as the sun sets on frigid fall nights — a price they’re willing to pay to be competing during the final week of high school football.</p>

<p>The West’s No. 2 seed Manhattan (12-0) and the East’s No. 1 seed Gardner Edgerton (11-1) are battling for it all Friday afternoon. It’s a rematch of the 2022 state title game at Emporia State’s Welch Stadium.</p>

<p>“They’re super confident — and they should be,” Manhattan head coach Joe Schartz said. “They’ve won five games in a row. They have their personnel lined out. And the kids are feeling good, the coaches are feeling good. They should be because they’re a very good football team.”</p>
