Riley County police are investigating a fraud case involving an elderly victim who was scammed out of $1,250 by individuals posing as federal agents.

Officers filed the report at approximately 3:11 p.m. on Oct. 24 in the 1000 block of Westloop Place. According to the report, an 87-year-old man was contacted by unknown individuals who falsely claimed to be federal agents. The suspects allegedly threatened to close his bank accounts if he did not pay them.

Shane Amaro, 41, of Manhattan, was arrested in the 1000 block of Limey Place in Manhattan, at approximately 3:11 p.m. on Oct. 26, 2025 on a Geary County District Court warrant. Amaro was issued a total bond of $5,000 and is no longer confined in the Riley County Jail.

Officers filed a report of theft in the 800 block of Houston at approximately 8:23 a.m. on Oct. 26. A 51-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man were listed as the victims when it was reported an unknown suspect stole two Specialized brand bicycles. The estimated total loss associated with this case is $1,400. Anyone with information, contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Officers filed a report of aggravated battery and aggravated robbery at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Oct. 25 in the 700 block of Kearney. A 28-year-old man was listed as the victim when it was reported a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old man battered him and stole a handgun. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward up to $1,000.
