Riley County police are investigating two separate cases of check fraud reported Saturday in Manhattan.

The first incident was reported by an 84-year-old man who told police someone stole a check, altered it and forged another, leading to losses of more than $8,400.

A little more than an hour later, officers took a second report at Fidelity State Bank and Trust, after a 77-year-old man reported a stolen check was cashed, causing losses of over $2,300.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Riley County Police Department or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers.

A local resident was arrested for committing forgery on Wednesday evening.

Eugenio Damian, 40, was arrested just prior to 10 p.m. at the Countryside Parks mobile home parks in Manhattan on charges of interference with law enforcement by making a false statement, forgery and making false information.

Damian was arrested and booked into RCJ on a bond of $16,000. He remains confined at the time of this report.
