The Riley County Police Department filed a report of theft by deception  on December 10 in the 300 block of Southwind Road. According to officials, the incident occurred around 11:44 PM, involving an employee at a Dollar Tree store who allegedly fell victim to a telephone scam posing as an asset protection measure.

Authorities say the scheme resulted in a total loss of approximately $1,200. No arrests have been announced at this time.
