Riley County Police are investigating a homicide reported over the weekend near downtown Manhattan.

Officers responded just after midnight Satuday to the 800 block of Colorado Street for a reported welfare check on an injured man. Police identified the man as 36-year-old Mark Rickenbaker, of Manhattan. He was transported to Via Christi Hospital with serious injuries to his body and later died from his injuries.

A police investigation determined Rickenbaker was involved in an altercation prior to their arrival. It’s believed to be an isolated incident and additional details will be released as they become available.
Police are asking anyone with information to submit a tip through Crime Stoppers.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office has recovered a stolen vehicle and made an arrest following a two-day investigation.

Deputies located a Toyota Avalon around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon near in Abilene. The car had been reported stolen out of Nebraska, but officials say it was unoccupied when they found it. The vehicle was processed for evidence and towed for safekeeping until it can be returned to its owner.

Investigators developed a suspect the next day, leading to the arrest of 19-year-old Christopher Bryant of Abilene on a charge of vehicle theft.

Officers filed a report of theft in the 700 block of Crestwood on March 3, 2025, at approximately 7:32 AM.  Officers listed 27-year-old male as the victim when it was reported toolboxes were stolen from the back of his truck by an unknown subject. Jose Orona, 28, of Garden City, was arrested on March 3, 2025, at approximately 1:30 in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road.  Orona was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for aggravated battery, driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol, and reckless driving. Total bond was set at $5,500. Orona was confined at the time of this report.

Thomas Jackson, 35, of Park City, was arrested on March 3, 2025, at approximately 1:44 PM in the 200 block of N. 5th Street. Jackson was arrested on the probable cause offense of burglary. Total bond was set at $5,000. Jackson was confined at the time of this report.

Joseph Marlow, 25, of Manhattan, was arrested on March 3, 2025, at approximately 7:20 PM in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road. Marlow was arrested on the probable cause offense of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Total bond was set at $125,000. Marlow was confined at the time of this report.

• Jason Marcus Wilhite (18, Manhattan, KS) – Arrested for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to perform duty, driving too fast for conditions, and transporting an open container. His bond was set at $1,000.
• Kaiden Derek Daniel (23, Wamego, KS) – Charged with failure to comply with a lawful order and being an intoxicated pedestrian in the street, with a $500 bond.
• Brittany Diane Conard (27, Manhattan, KS) and Leslie Leeann Young (26, Manhattan, KS) – Arrested on multiple charges, including burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, and criminal trespass. Conard’s bond was set at $32,000, while Young’s was $8,000.
• Cassandra Potter (52, Manhattan, KS) – Taken into custody for two counts of probation violation, with a total bond of $18,000.
• Clayson Creed Joyce (22, Manhattan, KS) – Arrested for attempted domestic battery, with a $3,000 bond.

Officers filed a report of an injury accident at the corner of S. 10th Street and Fort Riley Blvd. on January 24, 2024, at approximately 1:53 PM.  Officers report Eugene Fells, 85, of Herrington, failed to yield at a red light. Subsequently, his Lincoln MKZ struck a Mazda Tribute riven by Carrie Baker, 50, also of Manhattan. Baker was transported via EMS to Via Christi for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Fells was issued a citation for failure to yield.

Jalisa Carson, 36, of Manhattan, was arrested on January 23, 2025, at approximately 12:58 PM in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road. Carson was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for violation of the offender registration act- 3 or more convictions and failure to appear. Total bond was set at $10,000. Carson was confined at the time of this report.

Horashio Pritchett, 45, of Ogden, was arrested on January 23, 2025, at approximately 3:53 PM in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road. Pritchett was arrested on the probable cause offenses of perjury, violation of a protection order x 5, and violation of the offender registration act- 2nd conviction. Total bond was set at $28,000. Pritchett was confined at the time of this report.

Thomas Scripter, 38, of Manhattan, was arrested on January 14, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM in the 3000 block of Anderson Ave.  Scripter was arrested for the probable cause offenses of driving under the influence- 4th or subsequent conviction and failure to have an ignition interlock device.
