<p>Robert Copple, hospital president of Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan announced Thursday he is leaving the hospital, effective this week.</p>
<p>In a statement sent to hospital staff, Copple said he and his wife, Kim, are not leaving the community.</p>
<p>Copple said he was thankful for the opportunity to work with the staff of Ascension Via Christi and being a part of “providing much-needed healthcare services in our community.”</p>

<p data-start="79" data-end="225">Three people were injured in two related crashes late Friday night on K-18 eastbound, about half a mile east of the K-114 junction.</p>
<p data-start="227" data-end="750">The first incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. when 18-year-old Trinity Sproul of Wamego lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer and struck a parked 2007 Pontiac G6 on the shoulder. The Pontiac then hit two pedestrians who were standing in front of the vehicle. The pedestrians—29-year-old Koltyn Moore of Manhattan and 40-year-old Rod Marti of Milwaukee, Wisconsin—were both transported to Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan with suspected serious injuries. Sproul reported possible injuries but was not transported.</p>
<p data-start="752" data-end="1004">Shortly after the initial crash, a second vehicle traveling eastbound—a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz driven by 34-year-old Frank Macias of Upland, California—struck debris from the first crash. Macias was also taken to Via Christi with suspected minor injuries.</p>

<p data-start="257" data-end="615">According to the Kansas Highway Patrol a 2024 Tesla, driven by 73-year-old Terry Roehr of Colorado Springs, was attempting to enter I-70 from the eastbound on-ramp at K-177 when the vehicle hydroplaned due to wet conditions. The Tesla collided with a pickup truck as it was spinning on the highway.</p>
<p data-start="617" data-end="809">The pickup was driven by 16-year-old Sawyer Ibarra of Alma, Kansas. Both drivers were taken to Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan with possible injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.</p>
