A Riley family has been displaced following a house fire Wednesday afternoon.
According to the City of Riley Fire Captain Jay Holmes, the home in the 100 block of Bird Dog Drive was fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene shortly after noon Wednesday. The residents all got out safely, but the house was a total loss.
A total of 30 firefighters including Riley, Keats, Leonardville, University Park and Tuttle Creek stations battled the blaze. The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office was also involved in the investigation. Riley County Fire District No. 1, RCPD and Riley County EMS also responded. Crews worked for over five hours to bring the fire under control and perform overhaul.
The cause of the fire is undetermined. It’s believed the fire started in the home’s rear.
