Riley County health officials have confirmed five additional COVID-19 related deaths since Friday, bringing the total number of deaths to 28.

Each of the patients ranged in age from 46 to 85. The health department also confirmed 127 new cases and 306 additional recoveries since Friday. Ascension Via Christi is caring for 12 positive patients, down from a high of 25 last week. One of those patients is in the Intensive Care Unit. The percent positive rate of infection was 9.9 percent for Jan. 10 through Jan. 16, with 355 positives out of 2,788 total tests.

All licensed healthcare professionals in Riley County have been vaccinated and will begin vaccinating those in phase two starting Thursday.

People aged 65 and older who signed up to receive the vaccine will be contacted directly by the health department with information on how and when to receive their first dose.

A limited number of people outside that age range will also begin receiving notification via text, email or phone call to begin their process receiving the vaccine.

  • Emergency Medical Services

 Phase 2 includes:

  • Adults 65 and Older

  • First Responders

  • K-12 Teachers and Staff

  • Licensed Child Care, Preschools, After School Care, Child Care Licensing Staff

  • Emergency Shelter and Domestic Violence Homes, Adult Group Care Homes, Residential Treatment Centers, Adult and Child Protective Services
