A ninth Riley County resident has died after having tested positive for COVID-19.

The Riley County Health Department confirmed Wednesday that the 72-year-old man died Wednesday after testing positive less than two weeks earlier, on Sept. 25. Health officials say he was not associated with any outbreaks in the county.

The ninth death comes as Riley County added just four new positive cases since Monday’s report. Ascension Via Christi is monitoring one COVID positive patient.

As of Wednesday afternoon, active cases totaled 134, with 1,794 listed as recovered.

The health department reminds those showing symptoms or who is a close contact of a positive patient, or simply wants information about how to get tested to contact their health provider or call the Riley County Screening Line at 785-323-6400. The screening line is staffed 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The health department is also now offering drive up flu shots at the health department by appointment. Information can be found at rileycountyks.gov/flu.  Appointments are also now being accepted for its annual Oct-Flu-ber Festival Oct. 22. Kids receive a free gift bag also with their flu shots at that event. (See information below)
