The filing deadline for Manhattan city and USD 383 school board election candidates came and went Tuesday.

All told, 10 local residents have filed for three seats on the school board and nine residents for three seats on the city commission. That means there will be a primary election August 3 to narrow the field for the general election November 2.

On the city commission, there are three open seats. Incumbents Wynn Butler, Aaron Estabrook and Usha Reddi are all seeking re-election. Just minutes before the filing deadline, Marcus Kidd signed his letter of intent with the Riley County Clerk’s office. Kidd is assistant director of enrollment management and institutional partnerships in the Kansas State University College of Education.

Earlier Tuesday, former city commissioner Rich Jankovich also filed. The rest of the candidate field includes Kaleb James, Monica Macfarlane, former city commissioner John Matta and Joseph McGraw.
