Pottawatomie County officials on Wednesday made the decision to immediately close Louisville Road between Rockenham and Emile Road, due to the deteriorating bridge deck over Rock Creek.

The detour for eastbound traffic will be south on Rockenham to Hanson Road, then north on Jenkins to Louisville Road. The detour for westbound traffic will be south on Jenkins to Hanson, then north on Rockenham to Louisville Road.

County officials also say the detour will have dust control applied next week.

The rural bridge, located between Flush Road and Highway 99 developed a large hole in the deck earlier this month, causing Pottawatomie County Public Works crews to cover it with a metal plate. The county is also seeking state funding to help replace the 70 year old bridge.
