<p>A Texas man was found not guilty by a jury in Riley County District Court on Friday in a trial charging him with sex crimes.</p>
<p>Abel Gutierrez Jr., 35, of Laredo, Texas stood trial for four days on two counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of sexual battery. The jury in his case reached a verdict of not guilty for all four counts early Friday evening.</p>

<p>County clerk Rich Vargo suggested Monday that Riley County commissioners urge lawmakers to provide some state money for an expected increase in voter registration software cost.</p>
<p>&#x201C;We&#x2019;re one of six states that receive no funding from their state for elections,&#x201D; he said. &#x201C;I didn&#x2019;t realize that.&#x201D;</p>

<p data-start="57" data-end="209">One person was transported to the hospital Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department.</p>
<p data-start="211" data-end="552">Officers responded at approximately 12:48 p.m. May 8th, 2026, to the intersection of South Scenic Drive and Fossilridge Drive for a reported injury accident. Upon arrival, officers determined that a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Natalia Larry, 18, of Manhattan, had collided with a 2011 Ford Fiesta driven by Krystle Dilley, 37, of Manhattan.</p>
<p data-start="554" data-end="631">Dilley was transported to Via Christi Hospital for treatment of her injuries.</p>
<p data-start="633" data-end="698" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Dilley was issued a citation for failure to yield at a stop sign.</p>

Scenic Dr. and Fossilridge Dr. on May 8, 2026, at approximately 12:48 p.m. &#xA0;Upon arrival, officers found a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Natalia Larry, 18, of Manhattan had struck a 2011 Ford Fiesta driven by Krystle Dilley, 37, of Manhattan. &#xA0;Dilley was transported to Via Christi or treatment of her injuries. &#xA0;Dilley was issued a citation for failure to yield at a stop sign.</p>
<p>Officers filed a report for theft in the 5200 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. on May 9, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m. A 45-year-old man was listed as the victim when it was reported an unknown suspect had stolen toolboxes filled with assorted tools. &#xA0;The estimated loss is over $2,000.</p>

<p>One person was killed and another seriously injured Sunday evening in a motorcycle crash in Geary County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.</p>
<p data-start="259" data-end="634">The crash occurred at approximately 7:21 p.m. May 10th near Old Highway 40 and Kansas Falls Road, west of South Crider Road. Investigators said a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound on Old Highway 40 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and lost control, causing both occupants to be ejected from the motorcycle.</p>
<p data-start="636" data-end="857">The driver, identified as 49-year-old Jeremy W. Williams of Weatherford, Oklahoma, sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to Stormont Vail Health-Flint Hills Campus.</p>
<p data-start="636" data-end="857">A passenger, 38-year-old Amanda W. Conrad of Junction City, suffered fatal injuries and was taken to a mortuary.</p>
<p data-start="636" data-end="857">The crash report states neither occupant was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.</p>

<p>The 97th Military Police Battalion cased its colors during a ceremony at King Field House Tuesday, ending nearly 21 years of continuous service at Fort Riley and marking another transition in the Army&#x2019;s modernization efforts.</p>
<p>&#x201C;This battalion has been there at the most critical points in our nation&#x2019;s story,&#x201D; said Col. Lillian Woodington, commander of the 89th Military Police Brigade. &#x201C;From Europe in 1945 to Gitmo in 2024, the Guardians have always answered the call with professionalism and grit.&#x201D;</p>

<p>&#x201C;Guardian soldiers and leaders helped shape who I am,&#x201D; Lt. Col. Tommy E. Sieker said of his time as the battalion commander. &#x201C;Watching these colors be cased is tough, but I know the 97th will rise again when the nation calls &#x2014; just as it has so many times before.&#x201D;</p>

<p>Stacy Kohlmeier, a longtime Manhattan resident and recently retired business leader from Florence Corporation, has officially filed for election to the Kansas House of Representatives, District 67 as a Republican.</p>
<p>&#x201C;After more than 40 years in business, I&#x2019;m excited about the opportunity to step into public service and give back in a new way,&#x201D; Kohlmeier said. &#x201C;This community has given so much to me and my family, and I&#x2019;m ready to put my experience to work for the people, families and businesses who call this area home.&#x201D;</p>

<p>Kohlmeier moved to Manhattan in 1984 to begin her career with Kansas Power &amp; Light Company, now known as Evergy.</p>
