<p data-start="62" data-end="174">The Riley County Police Department is investigating the theft of a bicycle reported Sunday morning in Manhattan.</p>
<p data-start="176" data-end="314">Officers filed a report of theft of property or services at approximately 6:32 a.m. June 14, 2026, in the 300 block of North Fifth Street.</p>
<p data-start="316" data-end="444">A 73-year-old man was listed as the victim after it was reported an unknown suspect stole his purple Specialized Hybrid bicycle.</p>
<p data-start="446" data-end="506">The total estimated loss associated with the case is $2,000.</p>
<p data-start="508" data-end="704" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><a href="https://www.rileycountypolice.org/287/Crime-Stoppers"  rel="noopener">Anyone with information related to the theft is asked to contact RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.</a></p>

<p>Bayer Construction will begin a one-week mill and overlay project on Westwood Road from Fort Riley Boulevard to Oak Street on Monday. The city expects work to wrap up around June 22 depending on weather.</p>

<p>Crews will allow through traffic on Westwood Road. Mobile operations will control traffic using advance warning signs and flaggers. The special street maintenance fund, powered by the local 0.2% sales tax, funds the $987,555 budget for all five sites of the 2026 asphalt maintenance group 1 projects.</p>

<p data-start="55" data-end="238">The Riley County Police Department is investigating a fraud case after a Manhattan woman reportedly lost money and had her personal information compromised through an online job scam.</p>
<p data-start="240" data-end="318">Officers filed a report of fraud at approximately 9 a.m. June 11 in Manhattan.</p>
<p data-start="320" data-end="612">A 47-year-old woman was listed as the victim after it was reported an unknown suspect used information obtained through a job application posted on Facebook to open multiple accounts in her name. Police said the victim also provided the alleged scammers with gift cards as part of the scheme.</p>
<p data-start="614" data-end="674">The total estimated loss associated with the case is $1,153.</p>

<p>About 10:30 Monday night, Brett and Anja Hightower heard what seemed like an explosion.</p>
<p>They ran out of their bedroom to find water pouring in through the ceiling above their kitchen, dining room and living room.</p>

<p>&#x201C;It was coming in so fast and hard, finding weak spots and lower spots and puncturing through,&#x201D; Brett said.</p>
<p>In the dark, with no power, they managed to figure out pretty quickly what had happened: A 60-year-old oak tree behind their house had essentially cracked in half and fallen over onto the middle of their roof, creating a crater that the rain poured through. Three big chunks of the tree that had punctured the roof and were sticking through.</p>

<p data-start="210" data-end="425">Alexander Quest Anderson, 20, of Junction City, was arrested at approximately 11:22 a.m. June 10, 2026, in the 600 block of South Seth Child Road on a Riley County District Court warrant for violating a court order.</p>
<p data-start="427" data-end="556">The arrest stems from original charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and interference with a law enforcement officer.</p>
<p data-start="558" data-end="659" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Anderson was issued no bond and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.</p>

<p>All current variations of the design include angled parking on the north side of the street, no parking on the south, wider sidewalks, additional crosswalks and trees along the route.</p>

<p>One design included 34 trees, while a more conservative proposal pictured 25. City manager Danielle Dulin said they &#x201C;ballpark that it would cost about $25,000 to $30,000 per tree.&#x201D;</p>

<p>City commissioners debated proposed revisions to Manhattan&#x2019;s workforce housing sales tax policy Tuesday night. Commissioners pushed back against removing certain requirements and references to workforce housing, which was meant to give the commission more discretion on a case-by-case basis.</p>
<p>&#x201C;The whole rationale for having a policy is to have a set of standards &#x2026; that our developers can be looking at,&#x201D; Mayor Susan Adamchak said.</p>

<p>The discussion focused heavily on how to define affordability targets, how strictly to cap income eligibility and whether the program should prioritize ownership, rental development or a mix of both.</p>

<p>&#x201C;If you do have a street that is closed, please let us know, so we can get it on our list,&#x201D; he said.</p>
<p>Johnson said the city aims to have all debris cleared from roads by the end of Wednesday, or possibly Thursday.</p>
