Entering the 127th season of K-State baseball and ninth under head coach Pete Hughes, the upcoming conference schedule features five opponents that competed in the 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Championships (Oklahoma State, Arizona State, UCF, Cincinnati, and Kansas). The Wildcats’ 30-game conference slate also includes three-game series against BYU, TCU, Utah, Arizona, and Baylor.

Kansas State overwhelmed Missouri State in the 2026 home opener at Buser Family Park on Thursday, as the Wildcats tallied a 3-0 win over the Bears. K-State has opened the season with three straight wins for the second straight season.

Combined with its home draw to end the 2025 season, K-State (3-0-0) in unbeaten in its last four matches which is the second-longest unbeaten streak in program history.

There was a commonality among most of the 33 speakers at Thursday’s public hearing on draft regulations for data centers in Pottawatomie County — a moratorium is necessary.

The speakers said more information is needed to bolster the regulations, however they also praised the Pott County Planning Commission for the work it had already done.

Approximately 125-150 people attended the hearing, which was at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. The hearing lasted slightly over two hours, just half of what the planning commission had allotted, according to Judd McCormack, commission chair.

An 87-year-old Manhattan man was injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Kimball Avenue.

According to the Riley County Police Department, Gerald Hughes was driving a 2017 Toyota Camry in the 4200 block of Kimball Avenue when it collided with a 2025 International box truck driven by 24-year-old Marcello Martinez of Independence, Missouri.

Hughes was transported to Via Christi Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police issued Hughes a citation for improper driving on a roadway.

A 77-year-old Manhattan man was injured Thursday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Tuttle Creek Boulevard.

According to the Riley County Police Department, Michael Hathaway was riding a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle near mile marker 186 when the motorcycle was laid down and struck the rear of a 2019 Dodge Ram driven by 54-year-old Jeannie Jorgensen of Lincoln, Kansas.

Hathaway was transported to Via Christi Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

No citations were reported.

A Manhattan woman was arrested Thursday after a road worker was reportedly struck by a vehicle near Tuttle Creek Boulevard and North Seth Child Road.

According to the Riley County Police Department, Lacey Nicole Stevens, 42, was arrested around 11:40 a.m. in the 4300 block of North Seth Child Road on suspicion of aggravated battery and failure to stop at an accident.

Police said a 56-year-old man was listed as the victim.

Stevens was booked into the Riley County Jail on a total bond of $10,000 and is no longer confined.

A Manhattan man was arrested Thursday evening following two incidents that resulted in multiple allegations of battery against law enforcement and corrections officers.

According to the Riley County Police Department, Nicolus Allen Weiss, 35, was arrested around 6:35 p.m. in the 400 block of South Fourth Street on suspicion of four counts of battery of a law enforcement officer, interference with a law enforcement officer and criminal damage to property.

Police later filed another report involving Weiss around 7 p.m., resulting in additional allegations of battery of a law enforcement officer and physical contact with a corrections or court services officer. Several people and the Manhattan Emergency Shelter were listed as victims in the two reports.

Weiss was booked into the Riley County Law Enforcement Center on a total bond of $16,000 and remained confined at the time of the report.

A Tennessee man was arrested early Friday on an outstanding Riley County District Court warrant.

According to the Riley County Police Department, Gavin Michael Robert Adam, 26, of Lenoir City, Tennessee, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. at the Riley County Law Enforcement Center on suspicion of failing to appear.

The warrant stems from original charges of aggravated domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

Adam was booked on a total bond of $14,000 and remained confined at the time of the report.
