A 55-year-old Chanute man was arrested Thursday morning on an allegation of sexual exploitation of a child.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said agents arrested Brian W. Bollig at about 8:15 a.m. near a residence at 1400 Road and Anderson Road in Chanute.

The investigation began in June after the KBI received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating Bollig allegedly possessed child sexual abuse material. Authorities later executed search warrants as part of the investigation.

Bollig was booked into the Wilson County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.

Pottawatomie County commissioners this week overrode the recommendation of planning and zoning and approved a zoning change from A1, agricultural, to AB, ag-business.

The property, located on McDonald Road in Havensville, is owned by Derek Tollefson. He requested the change to construct an office and equipment storage yard on the property.

Kansas State junior goalkeeper Maddie Sibbing added to her trophy case, as she was named Intercollegiate Women’s Soccer Organization for Coaches (IWSOC) National Player of the Week for her performance during week three of the 2026 season.

Sibbing is the first player in program history to garner National Player of the Week honors. Earlier this week, she was named Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time in her career.

Triple-digit temperatures and humidity are affecting sports schedules for area high schools.

USD 383 superintendent Eric Reid said during Wednesday night’s school board meeting that parents can expect changes to practice and competition times because of a Kansas State High School Activities Association rule, which prohibits outside activities when the “wet bulb globe temperature” is 89.8 or higher.
