The Pearce Keller American Legion Post 17 paid their respects to fallen soldiers on Memorial Day.

The post’s ceremony began with a prayer by Post Chaplain Bob Willette.

Willette then read a short poem called Mere Boys. The poem referred to those going into war as “mere boys,” and the sacrifices they made for peace.

He says for 100 years, the preamble of the legion’s constitution has stated they were to preserve the memories of those in the Great Wars.

The ceremony, which was moved indoors due to rain Monday, honored all the fallen soldiers from all of the wars throughout this country’s history. Myer says the location of each war isn’t important, but the hearts of those men and women that is.

While not everyone can understand a soldier’s experience, Myer says the community can still support their veterans by saying thanks.
