Garden of H.O.P.E. Benefit Concert @ Manhattan Arts Center

Enjoy great music and a great time on Friday, May 17, at 7pm at the Manhattan Arts Center!

The bands playing include:
FUMA, a local alternative-rock 4-piece
The Thundering Cats, a 18-piece big-band
and Alli & Billy, an acoustic duo from Des Moines, Iowa.

The event is a fundraiser for the Garden of H.O.P.E Team, who will be traveling to Kenya, Africa this summer to help construct and sustain a community garden, as well as participate in community improvement.

The event is free of charge, but donations are encouraged and greatly appreciated!

The Brenda Allen Morgan Cancer Benefit Concert @ The Wareham

Brenda’s Brigade presents the Brenda Allen Morgan Cancer Benefit Concert. Door’s open at 6:30pm. Show is from 7pm to 12:30am. See top LOCAL bands Waffle Stomp, Starving in Style, Gradivus, Ashes in Vein, Elctrikchair, Fractured Black, What I’ve Become, and The Field Day Jitters. You can hit the bands up on Facebook. Click any band above to get to their pages. They are competing for a prize. The band that sells the most tickets has their choice of four professionally recorded songs from Bullet Ride Productions or $300 cash.

There will be 2 raffles one for a pair of VIP to Jackyl and the other for a pair of VIP ticket’s to a upcoming show of their choice at Rc Mcgraws.

TICKETS WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE at the door the night of the event.
Other opportunities to purchase tickets will be:
In front of Hastings both Friday July 11th after 4:30pm and Saturday from 11am to 9pm.
Walmart Sunday July 13th and 20th from 11 am to 8pm.

Old Settlers Day @ Beecher Bible & Rifle Church

The Beecher & Rifle Church, Wabaunsee will host an “Old Settlers Day” on Sunday, August 27th.  Events begin with Church Service at 9:45 am.  Rev. Lynn Roth officiating.  “Potluck Dinner” will follow at noon.  Afternoon program will start at 1:30 pm.  Guest speaker, Zona Galle; North Newton, Ks., is a descendent of the Platt Brothers.  The Platt Family, was instrumental in the early settlement of the Wabaunsee Area, including “The Underground Railroad” and “the BB&RC”.  The public is welcomed to attend this event, an educational program revealing information not found in many history books.  Time to reminisce with friends and acquaintances. Holy Hog Hoedown @ St Paul's Lutheran church

You and your family are invited to the 5th annual Holy Hog Hoedown at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta Vista on Saturday, September 9th beginning at 11:00 am.  They will have BBQ beans, potato salad, cole slaw, pickles, drinks and the best tender pulled pork in the state.  There will be a free will offering gathered to cover costs.

Quilt Expo @ Pottorf Hall CiCo Park

Sew and Show: a Quilt Expo will be held on Friday, September 15th from 1:00 to 8:00 pm  and on Saturday, September 16th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Pottorf Hall, CiCo Park.  This is a quilt show sponsored by Konza Prairie Quilters’ Guild.  Members will have their quilts displayed, and speakers will present short informative talks about various topics.  Classic cars from the local Yard Art Classics Car Club will be in the parking lot on Saturday.  A representative of Kansas Flint Hills Quilt Trail, along with examples of barn quilts, will be on the east patio as well.

2200 Steps

The second annual 2200 Steps will be held on Saturday, September 16th from 10:00 to 11:00 am.  The walk starts at the fountain on South 3rd street and walks north to Poyntz.  Then take a left and walk down to 6th street, crossing the street and heading back to 3rd then to the fountain.  Every day we lose 22 Veterans to the invisible wounds of war.  We would like to reach out to our Veterans and let them know we are here for them.  There are 2200 steps in a mile so the is sending out that message that we will go the extra mile for our troops.  Any questions or concerns call 785-236-1893 or vet.sup.hos@gmail.com.

Toy Drive @ Manhattan City Park

The 5th Annual Toy Drive benefiting the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital & Children’s Mercy Hospital will be on Saturday, September 16th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at City Park.  They will have a FREE Kids Carnival with the donation of a new toy.  (Please no stuffed animals) They will have hot dogs; raffles; face painting; cotton candy; bounce houses; Star Wars characters; popcorn and a silent auction!
