Campus Mobile Food Pantry @ Chester E Peters Recreation Complex

Oktoberfest @ Blue Rapids Square

The 5th Annual Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday, October 14th, from 4:00 pm until midnight on the Blue Rapids Square.  Three bands will perform on the newly renovated bandstand.  The Byton Stoll Band kicks off the evening at 4:00 pm.  Classic Country Jukebox will perform at 6:00 pm.  The evening ends with the party band, Rewind, performing from 8:00 until midnight.  In addition to a full evening of music there will be activities for kids.  The fire department is hosting a Fish Fry starting at 5:00 pm until supplies last.  A free-will donation will be accepted.  The department is also sponsoring a beer garden from 4:00 pm until midnight. Fire Prevention Week and Open House @ Firehouse

The Manhattan Fire Department will host its annual Open House in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 15th, at the Firehouse 1, 2000 Denison Avenue.  Activities will include Old Engine 1 rides, spraying a real fire hose, using an escape window, and watching live demonstrations of firefighters in action.  Through many educational, family-oriented activities, residents can learn more about fire safety and the Manhattan Fire Department.  Please contact Deputy Chief Almes, Manhattan Fire Department, at 785-587-4504 with any questions.

Open House at Big Lakes Developmental Center @ Big Lakes Developmental Center

Riley County Historical Society Dinner Meeting @ Family and Child Resource Center

Wednesday, October 18th the Riley County Historical society will hold its annual dinner meeting and program at the Family and Child Resource Center (lower level) 2101 Claflin Road.  The dinner will begin at 6:30 pm.  Cost of the dinner is $11.00 and reservations must be made by calling 785-565-6490 by October 11th.  The program will begin around 7:15 pm.  Dr. Steve Christy, member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Barn Alliance will speak on “Beauty and Heritage, Why We Save Our Historic Barns”.  The program is free and does not require a reservation.  Everyone is invited.

MHS Theatre Camp @ MHS West Campus

Manhattan High Thespians will be hosting the second annual Kids’ Theatre Camp on Friday, October 20th at MHS West Campus from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.  The camp is open to anyone in kindergarten through eighth grade.  Students will be led through basics about lighting, sound costuming, makeup, improvisation, and dancing for theatre productions.  Members of the high school Thespian Club will run the camp with adult supervision.  The cost of one child application is $25 and $10 for every additional student:  Email: manhattanhighthespians941@gmail.com or call/text: 785-539-4742 for an application form and more information.  Forms and payment should be turned in by Friday September 29th at the Manhattan High School main office, or mailed to Linda Uthoff @ MHS, 2100 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS  66502.

Okt-FLU-ber Fest 2017 @ Riley County Health Department

Flu season is here once again and the Riley County Health Department is preparing to provide the flu vaccine to Riley County residents.  The community is invited to attend the 6th annual Okt-FLU-ber Fest event taking place on Thursday, October 26th from 1:30 pm – 7:00 pm at the Riley County Health Department Campus 2101 Campus Road.  The first 350 children to receive their flu vaccine will be given a free pumpkin!  Vaccine registration will close at 6:00 pm.  In addition to the vaccines, there will be kids’ games, face painting, snacks community partner booths, and lots of fun.  For more information please contact Julie Hettinger via email at jhettinger@rileycountyks.gov or via telephone 785-776-4779 ext 7612.
